The First Full-Size Pickup: Ram 1500 To Earn IIHS Top Safety Pick+

The name Ram has been used since 1932 in Dodge Trucks, plus it was issued with several other vehicles including vans. This line has become one of the most popular trucks with enthusiasts nationwide. In addition, they offer many new safety features and innovations including its new high low beam H13 led bulb kit that set them apart from the competition. The Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 have all become iconic trucks in America.

Ram 1500

The Ram 1500 has garnered a reputation for being comfortable and a car-like pickup. The 3.7-liter V6 engine pumps out 335 horsepower. The five-speed automatic transmission enables the driver to experience a smooth ride and reasonable speed. Although the interior is comfortable, the Ram 1500 incurs problems with the exhaust gas recirculation system and requires the replacement of the EGR valve. Mechanics have encountered failures of the transmission solenoid packs, which occasionally require replacement of the transmission. If you can tolerate the potential transmission problem to experience comfort, then you can purchase the Ram 1500 for $7,000. The recommended engine is the 5.7-liter, increasing the price.

Ram 1500

The Ford F-150, Ram 1500, and Nissan Titan aced the crash test with Good” ratings. Meanwhile, the Toyota Tundra faired most poorly. The full-size pickup earned a Poor” rating in the category, and crucially, earned a Poor” rating when looking at how the truck maintained its structure in the event of this kind of crash. The IIHS observed protrusion of 15 inches into the passenger side of the cabin, which severely increases the risk of leg and hip injury in a crash. The F-150, on the other hand, showed just five inches.

The Sierra 1500 is the most expensive vehicle on the list, as it ducks just under the $10,000 price range. To justify the price, GMC ensured that the vehicle is comfortable, provides good power, and has impeccable handling. If you’re looking for a spacious and luxurious cabin, then the Sierra 1500 is the answer. Drivers of the vehicle can expect to get 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. The manufacturer has ensured everyone’s needs are met by offering a vast options list. Car pundits claim that the Sierra 1500 is worth the high price tag, as it confers luxury and reliability.

Ram 1500

Currently, only three automakers offer standard front crash prevention systems. Volvo models have standard City Safety, a low-speed auto brake system. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class and E-Class have a warning and auto brake system, but the standard auto brake components haven’t been tested yet. The Mercedes-Benz M-Class and CLA and the Acura RLX offer standard warning systems. All these vehicles are available with optional systems that earn higher ratings than the standard equipment. The CLA, which earns an advanced rating with its optional system, hasn’t been tested for crashworthiness.

More Than 875,000 Ram pickups Were Recalled For Tailgate Problem

DETROIT (AP) — Fiat Chrysler is adding more than 875,000 Ram pickup trucks worldwide to a series of recalls to fix tailgates that can open while the trucks are being driven. If you plug your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s website and recall doesn’t appear, it means your vehicle doesn’t have any. Because automakers issue recalls often, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly. The expanded recall is for 2013 to 2018 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks. If these vehicles are in motion, there’s a risk that cargo could tumble onto the road, creating a dangerous hazard, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Ram pickups

Almost a year ago Fiat Chrysler recalled roughly 1.6 million Ram trucks over an issue with the locking power tailgate. The actuator limiter tab for the power locking mechanism could fracture, which would permit the actuator’s lock-rod control to move beyond its limits. That would pull the locking rods open, thereby allowing the tailgate to open at any time. The 2018 recall covered Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickups from the 2015 to 2017 model years, with the five-foot-seven and six-foot-four beds and the power locking tailgate option. Trucks with eight-foot beds and those with manual-locking tailgates were excluded.

Ram pickups

The issue stems from a tailgate tab that can fracture. If that happens, the tailgate can unlatch while the truck is being driven. That increases the risk any cargo in the bed will spill out onto the road. The recall affects 2013 – 2018 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups. Affected trucks in the 2015 through 2017 model years have 8-foot beds; while 2013, 2014 and 2018 trucks built before April 1, 2018, have various bed sizes.

The problem is due to the power-locking functionality of the tailgate on certain Ram trucks. A small piece inside the latch mechanism can break, allowing a component to move too far and pull on the unlocking arms, thus unlatching the tailgate. The recall involves modifying the latch to limit how far the actuator components can move. Ram plans to notify customers and dealers about the recall on Sept. 14. They might fix the 9012 led headlight bulb for the test as well, to solve the headlight issues.

Chrysler recalls Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks to fix faulty power locking tailgates. The Ram tailgate recall will begin June 28, 2019, when dealers will repair the tailgate latches. SAN ANTONIO – Fiat Chrysler added 875,000 Ram pickups to its previous recall over problem tailgates. DETROIT (AP) – Fiat Chrysler is adding more than 693,000 Ram pickups in the U.S. to a series of recalls to fix tailgates that can open unexpectedly.

2020 Dodge Ram 1500 Has New Design for You

The 2020 Ram 1500 Diesel is in the developing stage and it will hit the dealerships in the third quarter of 2019. In taking the place of the standard alternator, the 2018 Ram 1500’s eTorque system offers a ten-horsepower electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack, along with the conventional lead-acid battery. For the 2019 model year, the body of the Ram 1500 is the model for efficiency through engineering. Due to the Ram’s innovative multi-link coil and solid-rear axle arrangement, frequency response damping shock absorbers, and the enhanced aerodynamics, the smaller electric motor delivers more refined and smoother gear shifts. Also, the Ram 1500 sheds about 225 pounds thanks to those improved aerodynamics, and with a towing capacity of nearly 13,000 pounds, the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 certainly doesn’t sacrifice capabilities either. All-in-all, it’s clear why the 2019 Ram 1500 wins the title as the most efficient full-size pickup truck on the market.

Ram 1500

The Big Horn

The Big Horn is a significant jump up in equipment and features from Ram 1500 Express. The Big Horn adds premier cloth upholstery, a power 10-way driver seat with power lumbar adjustment, one 115-volt auxiliary power outlet, and auto-dimming exterior and rear mirrors. You’ll also get a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power door locks, power windows, 9006 led bulb white lighting, premier door trim, and an overhead console with a universal garage door opener and temperature and compass gauge.

New Turbocharged

Ram’s new, turbocharged, 3.0-liter diesel V6 produces 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque, the latter of which arrives at just 1,600 rpm. These represent decent increases of 20 horsepower and 60 pound-feet over the last-generation Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. Ram hasn’t released fuel economy estimates just yet but says the EcoDiesel engine “is expected to lead the segment on fuel economy,” according to a statement. The last Ram 1500 EcoDiesel was rated at 21 miles per gallon city and 29 mpg highway.

That the 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel EcoDiesel returned 24 mpg in our 75-mph, 200-mile highway fuel-economy test is remarkable by itself. But when considered against the 18 mpg returned by its counterpart, the Ram 1500 Rebel equipped with a gasoline-burning 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, the diesel is truly compelling. Its fuel economy number, however, comes with at least one caveat.

Ram 1500

V8 Torque System

Furthermore, when the 2019 Ram 1500 is loaded by the more powerful 5.7-liter V8 eTorque system, the EPA figures show 17 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the highway, and 19 mpg combined – once in two-wheel-drive. Clearly, the numbers decrease a little bit and are still good. Fortunately, because of the mild-hybrid capabilities of the 48-volt system, the 2019 Ram 1500 eTorque system essentially combines the advantages of idling on battery power when the engine is on and the effortless acceleration of an electric motor before slowly transitioning to all-gas power.

The all-new fifth-gen Ram 1500 is ready for 2019 season. Well, the new diesel engine is still waiting for the certification from EPA. Big emission scandal is slowing down the process. Also, new regulations could cause further delay. So, the new engine might debut in 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 Diesel. Nevertheless, the FCA must react fast to keep up with its archrivals.

2019 Ram Heavy Duty First Drive Review

The new 2019 Ram Heavy Duty is here, and it isn’t just a mid-life cycle refresh. The 2019 Ram Heavy Duty trucks offered some significant improvements over 2018 trucks. One area I found lacking innovation was the truck bed. When compared to GM’s new durable, it’s clear this is one area Ram wasn’t focused on. No significant mentions of the bed were made during presentations either. There is a lot of room for improvement. We’re hoping for additional tow hooks and better utilization of cargo space in the future.

2019 Ram Heavy Duty

Quietest Ram Heavy Duty

Through wind-tunnel analyses and three million miles of real-world durability tests, engineers have created the quietest Ram Heavy Duty ever with a segment-leading drag coefficient of409. While aerodynamics isn’t usually a factor in Heavy Duty trucks, the Ram engineering team not only wanted to improve efficiency, but they wanted to improve Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH). Upgrades that include new C-pillar hydro mounts, anti-vibration devices, new engine mounts, waterproof 1156 led bulb on taillight, active noise canceling and new exhaust-system attachments all help with NVH.

Base Engine

The base engine in the Ram 2500 and 3500 is a 6.4-liter gas-powered V-8 with 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. Cylinder deactivation can shut down four cylinders under light loads to save fuel, although these trucks are heavy enough that they aren’t rated by the EPA. The engine comes hooked to an 8-speed automatic transmission that makes better use of the power and torque than the previous 6-speed. For day-to-day situations, there’s more than enough torque out of the big 6.4-liter to motivate the massive amount of metal down the road or trail. Under strong acceleration, the thunder from under the hood and the exhaust is muscle-car grade.

2019 Ram Heavy Duty

Powertrain Lineup

Under the hood, the Ram features a revised powertrain lineup. The previously standard 5.7-liter V8 engine is no longer available. In its place is the previously optional 6.4-liter V8 that’s paired to a new eight-speed automatic transmission. The turbocharged 6.7-liter diesel six-cylinder is still optional, and it still comes with a six-speed automatic.

2019 Ram Power Wagon is the most capable production off-road truck in the industry. The Power Wagon features a unique suspension, factory suspension lift, locking the front and rear differentials, disconnecting sway bar and a 12,000-lb. winch. New to the Power Wagon is a 360 camera, which includes forward-view camera gridlines to help navigate obstacles. An all-new and integrated front-mounted WARN Zeon-12 winch features a unique fairlead and fairlead retainer with a new synthetic line that cannot kink does not fray and is more maneuverable. The new line also cuts weight by 28 lbs. A Power Wagon content package continues to be available on Tradesman, which includes all the off-road equipment but keeps the Tradesman design elements.

2019 Ram Heavy Duty

Wide front frame rails enable front suspension springs to be positioned slightly outboard — an enabler for generating positive roll stiffness. In the rear portion of the new frame, the structure includes fully boxed rear rails. The rear-axle structural cross member with provisions for fifth-wheel and gooseneck hitches has been upgraded for 2019 to accommodate the increased towing capacity.

2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab: New Features and Prices

A new nose headlines the changes to the V8-powered dual-cab truck, which has maintained similar pricing to 2019 with some price cuts through the range. The Ram 1500 Laramie is the only truck in its class to offer mild-hybrid assist. Standard on the truck’s 3.6-liter V6 and optional on the 5.7-liter Hemi V8, the 48-volt eTorque motor-generator can offer short bursts of extra power – 130 pound-feet of torque, in fact. Add that to the already healthy 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque from my test truck’s V8 and you’ve got plenty of extra chutzpah for off-the-line acceleration and highway passing, not to mention supplemental power for running car systems at idle.

Ram 1500

Engine Options

For the opening act, the 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie is available with two engine options. The 5.7 Hemi V8 returns and produces 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, for the more economically minded buyers, there’s the option of the Pentastar 3.6 V6 that produces 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Either engine will be fitted with an eight-speed transmission that features the dial-type gear selector. Out back the differential has three gearing options. Depending on the model, buyers will have the choice either a 3.21:1, 3.55:1, or 3.92:1 gear ratio. With the 5.7 Hemi coupled with 3.92 gears and the Mild Hybrid System, the truck can tow up to 12,750 lbs.

Ram 1500

Exterior Features

While behind the wheel of the 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie, you can look forward to experiencing a great deal of comfort and luxury. There is now even more space for your passengers to stretch out. Boasting a remarkably spacious backseat, the crew cab version is perfect for families. New high-tech features also arrive for 2019. A lot of drivers will be excited by the high-resolution Uconnect 4 infotainment system. It boasts a 12.0-inch touch screen, which is among the largest in the industry. Meanwhile, the available 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system will captivate music lovers. On car headlight, the Ram 1500 Laramie features 9004 led bulbs for high low beams, giving the headlight white lighting color and a new look. The Ram 1500 uses an exclusive multi-link, coil-spring rear suspension and this innovative rear suspension provides improved ride and handling characteristics with no loss of capability. A coil-spring design centralizes and absorbs bumps and impacts while reducing the amount of friction in the spring system and it is some 20 kilos lighter than a leaf-spring configuration.

Ram 1500

Trim Types

The 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie comes in a wide variety of trim levels, with two- or four-wheel drive, Quad or Crew cabs and two different bed lengths. Pricing starts as low as $31,795 for a lowest-spec Tradesman model and climbs to $53,240 before options for the range-topping Limited. These relatively simple hybrid systems don’t add much weight. The eTorque system on the V6 Ram adds about 105 pounds to total curb weight or 90 pounds on the V8 Ram. The reason it’s less with the V8 is that the V8 system is bundled with a lighter aluminum spare wheel and a smaller 23-gallon fuel tank. (The standard V8 tank holds 26 gallons; a 33-gallon tank is optional.) Max payload and towing capacities for eTorque-equipped V8 Rams, naturally, drop by a hair compared to regular V8 Rams.

For the 2019 model year, the Ram 1500 Laramie will continue to offer the popular Pentastar V6 and Hemi V8 engines. However, an all-new eTorque mild hybrid system is now available. It’ll give these engines an extra dose of power and efficiency.
